Wells's short satire: three friends salvage a pearl diver's suit and name it Jimmy Goggles. On a yachting trip Treherne puts it on to explore a wreck and is taken for a god by an island tribe. Revered, he takes riches and obedience - then unintended consequences expose colonial exploitation and blind worship. Imperialism, greed, clash of cultures; identity and power spoken with sharp wit. Adventure and irony on human folly.
