✦ 4 ✦CHAPTER 1: WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is a method of directing the universal life
energy of ki through human hands after initiation
carried out by a Reiki master. It is a system of
energy work in which the practitioner does not
use his own strength or personal energy, but
becomes a channel for energy coming from a
cosmic source. Ki is the basic energy of existence,
permeating all life, matter, space, and
consciousness. In Eastern tradition, it is known as
chi or prana, but in Reiki, the term ki is adopted,
which emphasizes its intelligent, self-regulating
character. This energy is not produced by man,
but flows through him when the energy channels
are opened in the process of initiation. Initiation
is a key moment in the practice of Reiki because it
allows a permanent connection with the flow of ki
and makes the energy begin to flow automatically,
without the need for concentration, visualization,
or mind control techniques. After initiation, the ki
flows from space through the crown chakra,
located on the top of the head, and then flows
✦ 5 ✦through the entire body, arms, and hands, which
become the natural channel of energy
transmission. Reiki works regardless of the
practitioner's beliefs, mood, or current emotional
state, because the energy itself finds places that
need to be regulated and balances them naturally.
The basic principle of Reiki is the automatism of
the action of energy. Ki does not require control or
directing thoughts to a specific place. When the
flow is activated, the energy itself locates
blockages, stagnation, and areas of imbalance in
the energy and physical body. These blockages can
manifest as muscle tension, feeling cold,
heaviness, pain, weakness, or emotional
instability. Reiki does not fight the symptoms, but
restores the natural flow of energy, thanks to
which the body itself activates the processes of
self-regulation and harmonization. The energy of
ki works effortlessly, without pressure and
without interference of will, which distinguishes
Reiki from many other methods of energy work.
The practitioner does not have to force or control
anything – the presence, openness, and allowing
of the action of energy is enough. The first
experience from which the practice of Reiki begins
✦ 6 ✦is to learn to feel the energy in your hands. The
palms are the most sensitive transmitters of the ki
because they contain numerous nerve endings and
natural energy points. To activate the feeling of
energy, a simple introductory exercise is
performed. The first step is to rub your hands
vigorously for about thirty seconds until they
become clearly warm. This heat is the first signal
to stimulate the flow of energy and increase
circulation in the hands. Then the second step is
performed, which consists of separating the hands
at a distance of about five centimeters and keeping
them facing each other, as if there was an invisible
ball between them. In this position, most people
begin to experience subtle but distinct sensations,
such as throbbing, gentle pressure, magnetic field-
like resistance, tingling, or heat waves. These
sensations are a sign of active ki energy and
confirm that the hands begin to function as an
energy channel. Feeling the energy in your hands
is the basis for further Reiki practice. The more
often this exercise is performed, the greater the
sensitivity of the hands becomes and the more
pronounced the energy signals. Tingling,
pulsating, and heat waves are not an end in
✦ 7 ✦themselves, but a message that the flow of energy
has been triggered. Reiki is not about intensifying
sensations, but about maintaining a stable and
calm flow. When the energy is active, the body
begins to react naturally. There is muscle
relaxation, calming of breathing, a decrease in
tension in the nervous system, and a sense of
inner balance. Energy does not act point-by-point,
but covers the whole body, regulating it at all
levels at the same time. One of the key
assumptions of Reiki is that the body has an
innate ability to self-regulate and self-heal, and
the ki energy only supports and accelerates these
processes. After one Reiki session, many people
feel a clear change in the level of life energy. This
can manifest as lightness, a surge of strength,
greater clarity of mind, or a deep state of
relaxation. Reiki does not act violently or
aggressively, but in a gradual and harmonious
way. Energy adapts to the current needs of the
body and works exactly where it is needed. As a
result, the practice of Reiki is safe and can be used
regularly without the risk of overload. The flow of
ki through the crown chakra is of particular
importance in Reiki, because this chakra is the
✦ 8 ✦main channel connecting man to the universal
source of energy. When the crown chakra is open,
energy flows freely into the entire energy system,
nourishing the remaining chakras and meridians.
Reiki does not require prior work with the chakras
or their activation - the energy itself synchronizes
their operation. During the Reiki session, the
chakras can react in a variety of ways, such as the
feeling of warmth, gentle movement, pulsation, or
a momentary chill. These are the body's natural
reactions to regulating the flow of energy. An
important feature of Reiki is that energy is not
limited by time or space, but at the basic level, the
practice focuses on the direct contact of the hand
with the body or the energy space around the
body. The hands can be applied directly to the
body or held a few centimeters above it. Reiki
works in both cases because energy penetrates
matter without hindrance. In practice, beginners
often start by working with their own body,
learning the body's reaction to the flow and
building confidence in the process. Reiki does not
require special conditions or long preparations. It
can be practiced in silence or with gentle
breathing, sitting or lying down, in clothes and
✦ 9 ✦without the use of any tools. The most important
element is the willingness to accept energy and
allow it to act. Reiki is not a system based on faith,
but on experience. Each session brings specific
sensations and changes that can be observed in
the body and well-being. Over time, the
practitioner notices that the body's reactions
become more and more legible and the flow of
energy more stable. Regular practice of Reiki leads
to a gradual increase in the level of vital energy.
The energy begins to circulate more freely, and the
body regenerates faster after physical and mental
exertion. Reiki supports emotional balance
because energy also works at the level of the mind
and emotions, dissolving the accumulated
tensions and blockages. After one session, you can
feel a clear improvement in well-being, but the full
effects of the practice are revealed along with
regularity. Reiki is not a one-time procedure, but a
process that deepens over time. Reiki always
works when it is activated. Energy does not
evaluate, does not select, and is not limited to
specific areas. Ki flows where it is needed and
works according to the body's natural intelligence.
The practitioner does not need to know the causes
✦ 10 ✦of problems or analyze them. Reiki bypasses the
intellectual level and acts directly at the energy
level, which makes it a simple yet profound
method of working with the body and
consciousness. Thanks to this, Reiki can be used
by both beginners and those who want to deepen
contact with their own life energy. The result of
working with Reiki is the gradual restoration of
harmony throughout the energy system. The body
regains its natural rhythm, energy begins to flow
more freely, and internal tensions dissolve. After
the first session, many people notice that the body
reacts faster to the need for rest, sleep, or
recovery. Reiki strengthens body awareness and
teaches recognition of signals that were previously
ignored. Thanks to this, the practitioner begins to
take better care of himself and maintain energy
balance on a daily basis. Reiki is a simple method
in form but deep in action. It does not require
complex techniques or advanced theoretical
knowledge. Its strength lies in naturalness and
consent to the process that takes place
spontaneously. The energy of the ki, flowing
through the crown chakra and hands, regulates
the blockages in the body automatically,
✦ 11 ✦CHAPTER 2: REIKI STORY
The history of Reiki dates back to the turn of the
19th and 20th centuries and is associated with the
figure of Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk, teacher,
and spiritual seeker, whose mystical experience on
Mount Kurama began the system known today
throughout the world as Reiki. Mikao Usui was
born in 1865 in Japan, at a time when the country
was undergoing profound social, spiritual, and
cultural changes. He was a man deeply committed
to spiritual development, Buddhist practices, and
the search for the truth about the nature of life
and healing. Interested in both the traditional
spirituality of the East and the knowledge of the
West, Usui studied a variety of texts, techniques,
and systems, but none of the methods available
satisfied his inner question: how did Jesus heal,
how did the touch work, which restored balance
and health without the use of medicine, force, or
medical knowledge? This inner need led him to
decide to undertake a harsh spiritual ritual -
seclusion, fasting, and meditation on Mount
✦ 13 ✦Kurama, located near Kyoto. For centuries, Mount
Kurama has been recognized as a place of power,
meditation, and contact with the divine
dimension. In Japanese tradition, it is considered
an area of strong energies, where spiritual lines
intersect and reinforce the practice. It was there,
according to the legend, that Mikao Usui went for
21 days of solo practice, giving up food,
conversations, and contact with civilization. His
goal was not to obtain a specific technique, but a
full spiritual awakening. He meditated, prayed,
and purified for 21 days, until on the last day he
experienced a powerful spiritual experience - a
vision of light that hit his crown, opening the
energy channels and triggering the flow of ki
energy in a completely new way. What he
experienced was not just a mystical ecstasy - it
was a permanent change in the perception of
energy, consciousness, and healing. When he
came down from Mount Kurama, he was already a
different man - he felt in his hands a powerful
flow of heat, pulsation, energy that seemed to
work on its own, without effort. He tested it the
same day, helping a person he accidentally
encountered with a sore leg. He put his hands
✦ 14 ✦down - and the pain subsided. It was not a
suggestion or a self-suggestion - it was a force that
worked from the level of energy, regardless of his
will. It was this experience that gave rise to the
practice of Reiki as a method of working with
universal life energy. After returning to everyday
life, Usui began to test his healing ability on a
larger scale. In Tokyo, he founded a clinic where
he received people with various ailments,
conducting sessions and sharing knowledge.
However, he did not stop at healing - his goal was
also to pass the method further. He knew that the
energy he was working with was not his property,
but a universal phenomenon with which anyone
could connect. So he began to initiate the
students, giving them the structure, principles,
and spiritual foundation of the practice. One of his
main students was Chujiro Hayashi, a former
sailor and military doctor who devoted himself to
exploring the energy structure of man and
developed a system of the sequence of hand
positions, which is still used in the practice of
Reiki I. Hayashi not only continued the work of
Usui, but also structured it, giving the system a
concrete form of working with the body, which
✦ 15 ✦facilitated the teaching of successive generations
of practitioners. It was Hayashi who became the
master of Hawayo Takata - the woman who
contributed to the spread of Reiki beyond Japan.
Hawayo Takata was a Japanese-born Hawaiian
who in the 1930s. In the 1960s, she came to Japan
in search of healing. She suffered from many
conditions that were to be treated surgically, but
at the last moment, she heard an inner voice that
surgery was not necessary. She ended up in
Hayashi's clinic, where she was subjected to a
series of Reiki sessions. Her health has improved
significantly, which prompted her to take a deeper
interest in the method. After long learning and
initiation, Takata returned to Hawaii, where she
began teaching Reiki in the circle of local
communities. Her method of communication was
simple, accessible, and intuitive, which
contributed to the widespread acceptance of this
method in the Western world. During her lifetime,
Takata trained 22, or according to some sources,
25 Reiki Masters, who in turn began to teach more
students, creating a branched communication
network that now covers all continents. The line of
communication in Reiki is of great importance.
✦ 16 ✦From Usui through Hayashi to Takata runs the so-
called clean line, which many practitioners
consider to be a guarantee of the authenticity of
the energy transmission. Each master who
initiates the next practitioner conveys not only
symbols and knowledge, but above all an energetic
tuning that allows you to connect with a universal
source of ki. That's why it's so important to know
your Reiki pedigree – the names of the people
who preceded us in the power line, because they
are the ones who form the structure through
which the power of the channel flows. Reiki is not
a collection of techniques, but a living system that
moves from heart to heart, from field to field. The
strength of the message depends on the purity of
intention, the spiritual maturity of the master, and
the continuous connection with the energy of the
source. Therefore, the choice of a Reiki teacher
should not be accidental. A practitioner who
wants to be initiated should check who his teacher
comes from, what values he represents, and what
his practice looks like. An authentic line
guarantees not only technical training, but above
all a deep energy resonance that allows the
student to come into real contact with the Reiki
✦ 17 ✦flow. Today, there are thousands of schools, styles,
and interpretations of Reiki around the world, but
the root remains the same – the Mikao Usui
experience on Mount Kurama, the opening of the
ki channel, and the belief that everyone can
become a healing tool. The story of Reiki is the
story of a message that has stood the test of time
and gained universal meaning. Regardless of
language, culture, or religion, Reiki works the
same way - through hands, presence, and
connection with the energy of life. A Reiki
practitioner who knows the story draws not only
knowledge from it but also spiritual strength. He
knows that he stands in a row of people who, with
dedication, humility, and wisdom, passed on a
tool that does not belong to anyone and at the
same time affects everyone. The history of Reiki is
not a legend but a living code of consciousness
that opens at the moment of initiation and leads
the practice throughout life - not as a ritual but as
a way of existence in harmony with the energy
that permeates everything.
✦ 18 ✦CHAPTER 3: THE FIVE RULES OF
Reiki
The five principles of Reiki are a spiritual
foundation that organizes the mind, purifies the
heart, and restores the free flow of ki in the body,
emotions, and energy field of man. Mikao Usui,
the creator of the Reiki system, understood that
even the purest energy cannot flow through the
body and consciousness if the mind is full of fear,
anger, tension, and anxiety. Therefore, these
principles are not an addition to the practice but
its center - it is an internal code that regulates the
state of consciousness and opens energy channels
not only by technique but through the way of
existence. Five simple sentences, spoken daily
with attention and focus, can completely change
the quality of life, energy, relationships, and
spiritual presence. Their action is not based on
magical formulas but on the daily decision to
stand on the side of light, peace, and conscious
direction. These rules are: just don't be angry
✦ 19 ✦today, just don't worry today, be grateful, work
honestly, be kind to others. Repeated three times
in the morning after waking up and three times in
the evening before bedtime, they act as spiritual
cleansing and energetic synchronization,
organizing thoughts, emotions, and body. Their
power is not that they are imposed from the
outside but that they lead to the decision to enter
the field of harmony from which everything else
flows. The first rule: don't get angry today. Anger
is an emotion that instantly closes the heart,
tightens the body, tightens the shoulders, erases
the breath, and separates the person from the
source of the flow. When we are angry, the energy
of the ki does not flow - it stops in the solar
plexus, and the vibration of man becomes heavy,
sharp, rough. Anger not only destroys
relationships but above all cuts us off from inner
power. Energy cannot flow through a closed heart.
Reiki requires openness, gentleness, and presence
that anger does not know. Therefore, returning to
this rule every morning and evening is a conscious
decision not to allow anger to take control of the
body and consciousness. This does not mean
suppressing emotions, but recognizing them and
✦ 20 ✦choosing a way out of their circle. Anger comes,
but it's up to us to stay with it for longer. The
second rule: just don't worry today. Worrying is
one of the most destructive forms of thinking that
takes a person away from the present moment and
throws him into a projection of a fearful future.
When you worry, your energy escapes - you are
not in the body, you do not feel your legs, you do
not hear the breath, you do not see what you have
in front of your eyes. Your mind projects threats
that don't exist, and your body tenses up as if they
were real. The energy of the ki stops circulating
because there is nowhere to flow - you are not
here, so it cannot feed you. Reiki flows only if you
are in the present moment. Therefore, this
principle teaches deep setting. He says: breathe,
you are here, only today, only now. There is
nothing to solve on the level of fear. It is enough to
return to the body, to peace, to your own center.
Worrying doesn't change the future, but it changes
your field today – it weakens, distracts, and clouds
it. When you stop worrying, your field returns to
clarity, and with it comes peace, strength, and
clarity. The third rule: be grateful. Gratitude is the
simplest and most powerful way to open energy
✦ 21 ✦channels in the body and in the heart. When you
feel grateful, you are no longer focused on the
lack, on what does not work, on what you miss.
You are present in what you have, what you
receive, what serves you. Gratitude is a natural
state that illuminates a person's energy field and
restores his access to power. The heart filled with
gratitude is open, calm, soft. Reiki then flows
unhindered, into every cell, into every organ, into
every energy layer. Gratitude does not have to be
spectacular - it is enough to be grateful for the
breath, for the presence, for the morning, for the
warmth of the hand, for the light of the day. This
practice of daily perception of the good changes
the energy structures in the body, and over time it
changes the whole way of seeing the world.
Instead of fighting for more, you begin to see that
everything is already there – and then what you
have grows. Fourth rule: work honestly. This
principle applies not only to professional work,
but to any form of activity – to how you create,
how you speak, how you live. Honesty means
purity of intention, transparency of energy,
consistency between what you feel, what you
think, what you say, and what you do. When there
✦ 22 ✦is consistency, energy flows. When you hide
something, when you act against yourself, when
you are insincere with others or with yourself,
there is a blockage. Reiki does not flow through
tearing - it needs inner unity. Honest work is not
just about ethics, it's a vibration that makes what
you do become a channel for energy. Work with
presence, work with commitment, but not with
tension. Work not to earn it, but to express who
you are. What you do matters – but who you are
when you do it has power. The fifth rule: be kind
to others. Kindness is an act of energy - it is a
decision not to close in on yourself, but to let the
energy also flow to another person. Ki circulates
in relationships, in looks, in words, in small
gestures. Kindness does not require great
sacrifices - it is enough that you do not interfere
with the energy flowing through your heart to the
other. You can smile. You can listen. You can not
judge. You can be present. This is enough for
Reiki to start working – not only in you, but also
in others. The energy of life is always looking for a
way to greater harmony - kindness is the perfect
channel for it. When you are kind, your energy
softens, becomes light and natural. You don't have
✦ 23 ✦
