Welcome to the book that will help you learn a language! With this book, you’ll be able to spend time enjoyably while (almost accidentally) improving your language skills.
According to scientists, reading a text that you only understand 90-95% of allows you to learn the most. An interesting story will keep your attention and motivate you to figure out the meanings of words on your own. If you lack this motivation, touching any word will show you a popup with its translation. The translation popup should work without any problems on Kindle, Kobo, and iBooks readers. If you are using a different e-reader, for example, a Pocketbook, try to allow footnotes to be shown as popups in the settings. If the popup does not work on your e-reader, clicking the word will redirect you to the glossary at the end of the chapter. It is less convenient, but it serves its purpose.
At the end of each chapter, there is a button that redirects you to vocabulary exercises from that chapter on our website www.pentecost.pub. You will find flashcards (online and printable), matching meanings, and much more! We are constantly working on this part, so if you ever come back to the same exercises, you may find more interesting tasks there.

Je voulais partir. Holmes m'a tiré dans la pièce. Il a fermé la porte. Holmes a dit : 'Watson, tu arrives au bon moment.' Watson a répondu : 'Je suis très occupé.'
Holmes a dit : 'Non, reste ici.' Il a présenté M. Wilson. Holmes a dit : 'Watson m'aide souvent. Il t'aidera aussi.' M. Wilson a salué Watson. Il a fait un petit signe de tête.
Holmes a dit à Watson de s'asseoir. Il a joint ses doigts. Holmes a dit : 'Watson, tu aimes les choses étranges.' 'Tu as écrit mes aventures.' Watson a dit : 'Vos affaires sont très intéressantes.'
Holmes a dit : 'La vie est plus étrange que l'imagination.' Watson a douté de cela. Holmes a dit : 'M. Wilson va raconter une histoire.' 'C'est une histoire très unique.' Holmes a dit qu'il ne savait pas si c'était un crime.
Holmes a demandé à M. Wilson de recommencer. Il voulait tous les détails. Holmes a dit : 'Ce cas est unique.' 'Je n'ai jamais rien vu de pareil.'
M. Wilson a gonflé sa poitrine. Il a sorti un vieux journal. Il a cherché une annonce. J'ai regardé M. Wilson. Il était un homme d'affaires ordinaire.
Il portait des vêtements simples. Ses cheveux roux étaient la seule chose spéciale. Son visage montrait du chagrin. Holmes a vu que je l'observais. Il a souri et a secoué la tête.
Holmes a dit : 'Il a fait du travail manuel.' 'Il prend du tabac à priser.' 'Il est franc-maçon.' 'Il est allé en Chine.' 'Il a beaucoup écrit.' M. Wilson a demandé : 'Comment savez-vous cela ?'
Holmes a dit : 'Vos mains le montrent.' 'Votre main droite est plus grande.' 'Vous avez travaillé avec elle.' M. Wilson a dit : 'C'est vrai, j'étais charpentier.'
M. Wilson a demandé : 'Et le tabac à priser ? Et la franc-maçonnerie ?' Holmes a dit : 'Votre épingle de cravate le montre.' 'Elle a un symbole de franc-maçon.'
M. Wilson a dit : 'J'avais oublié.' 'Et l'écriture ?' Holmes a dit : 'Votre manche droite est brillante.' 'Votre manche gauche a une tache.' 'Vous la posez sur le bureau.'
M. Wilson a demandé : 'Et la Chine ?' Holmes a dit : 'Vous avez un tatouage de poisson.' 'Il a été fait en Chine.' 'J'ai étudié les tatouages chinois.' 'Vous avez aussi une pièce chinoise à votre montre.'
M. Wilson a ri fort. Il a dit : 'Je pensais que c'était intelligent.' 'Mais ce n'était rien de spécial.' Holmes a dit : 'Watson, je ne devrais pas expliquer.' 'Ma réputation va souffrir.'
Holmes a demandé : 'M. Wilson, avez-vous trouvé l'annonce ?' M. Wilson a dit : 'Oui, la voici.' Il a montré l'annonce. J'ai pris le journal. J'ai lu l'annonce.
L'annonce disait : 'À LA LIGUE DES ROUX.' 'Un poste est libre.' 'Le salaire est de 4 livres par semaine.' 'Le travail est facile.' 'Les hommes roux de plus de 21 ans peuvent postuler.' 'Allez voir Duncan Ross le lundi.'
J'ai relu l'annonce. J'ai dit : 'Qu'est-ce que cela signifie ?' Holmes a ri. Il a dit : 'C'est étrange, n'est-ce pas ?' 'M. Wilson, racontez-nous tout.' 'Parlez de votre vie et de l'annonce.'
Holmes a dit : 'Watson, regarde la date du journal.' C'était le 27 avril 1890. C'était il y a deux mois. M. Wilson a commencé son histoire.
M. Wilson a dit : 'J'ai un petit magasin de prêteur sur gages.' 'Il est à Coburg Square.' 'Les affaires ne sont pas très bonnes.' 'Je gagne juste assez pour vivre.' 'J'ai un seul assistant maintenant.'
